Connecticut River Transit (CRT), whose bus service is also known as the Current, is the public transit provider for Vermont's southern Windsor County and Windham County. The company also owns and operates the former Brattleboro BeeLine bus service in the town of Brattleboro, Vermont. ==History== A private 501(c)(3) non-profit public transportation company, CRT was established in November, 2003. In 2003, it provided nearly 60,000 trips a year. In fiscal year 2010, it had an annual ridership of 126,500.〔(2012 Vermont Public Transit Policy Plan ), Vermont Agency of Transportation. Retrieved 2014-09-03.〕 The Brattleboro BeeLine, which CRT also operates for local routes in Brattleboro, served 63,000 patrons during that same time period. CRT's fleet consists of 26 wheelchair accessible vehicles, with bike racks on all vehicles. The operating costs for local bus service in the region was $1.17 million in fiscal year 2010. Community contributions come from towns, hospitals, human service agencies, businesses and individuals; these contributions leverage committed government awards from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Medicaid, and area human service agencies. In 2004, VTrans selected CRT along with other transportation providers in Vermont to develop a fully coordinated transportation system; and to develop procedures to ensure that all services are open to the general public, and are carefully designed and managed to meet the needs of residents and visitors including employees, job seekers, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, in the most flexible and cost-effective manner.
